Jill Crockett, a stay-at-home mom of a 14-month old son was called for jury duty by the Johnson County Courthouse in Olathe, Kansas, 10th Judicial District. This is her story:
“When I was called for jury
duty, I wrote that I have no one to watch my son during the day and would not
leave him with strangers. I was told I still had to report, so I had to
take my son to court with me ... Finally, the judge noticed us! He rudely asked me why I had brought my son. He went on to grill me with more questions, such as who normally would watch my son, what would I do with him in a case of emergency, etc. Eventually, the judge dismissed me since I had my baby with me, but said I would be called again within a year and would be expected to find a place to leave my son! What should I do? It seems this court is trying to make me decide between my child’s safety or contempt of court! |
