When you call the
Kentucky Legislative Message Line (1-800-372-7181), an operator will ask you
your name, your address, and phone number. Then he/she will ask who you
would like to leave a message for and what the message is.
Here is an example of what you might say:
“This message is for Rep. ________ (replace with your KY representative’s
name), AND
Sen. _________ (replace with your KY senator’s name.)*
If you don’t know who your Kentucky representatives
are, either click here

The message is:
Please support legislation that would allow Kentucky's family caregivers to
defer jury duty.
(A family caregiver would be defined as a parent/guardian of a child under 6
or someone who cares for a disabled or elderly relative.)
We really need this legislation in Kentucky because:
(use any one of the
reasons below):
-
A jury service
commitment is very unpredictable, which makes it extremely difficult to
obtain suitable all-day childcare/care for dependent family member.
-
Substitute care
arrangements for children or family members (for jury duty) places a
financial hardship on families with only one source of income.
-
Currently, 22
states and U.S. Territories have ‘family friendly jury duty’ laws, and
Federal courts currently have similar policies in 76 percent of their
jurisdictions.
Why doesn’t our state follow this precedent?
-
A frantic mother
would not make a good juror!
-
This is good
legislation for Kentucky's families, it won't disrupt our court system, PLUS
– it won’t cost taxpayers a dime!
